How to Make a Acrylic Jewelry Display Case
A jewelry box can be a nice added feature to put on a dresser or somewhere in a bedroom. It is a great place to store all your jewelry that is not being used, and can hold some very valuable objects. If you are tired of your old wood or metal jewelry boxes, you can make your own out of acrylic and get rid of that old jewelry case once and for all.
Instructions
1. Determine what size you want the box to be. Measure and mark the piece of acrylic exactly where the cuts will need to be made. Acrylic cuts just like glass or plexiglass. Mark the cut locations on the acrylic with a black marker and line up a T-square at the first cut location so a straight cut can be made.
2. Run a utility knife along the T-square at the black mark and score the acrylic. Repeat the process multiple times until the knife has gone through the acrylic and it has been cut in two pieces. Move to the next piece and repeat the process for all of the other pieces that you need to cut.
3. Cut a top and bottom piece that are the same size, a front and back piece that are the same size and two side pieces that are the same size, and wipe the edges with a clean rag to remove all sharp shards that remain from the cuts you made.
4. Lay the bottom piece down on a flat surface and run a thin bead of plexiglass glue along the edge. Set each of the four side pieces on the glue and hold them in place for five minutes so they can adhere to the glue. Wipe away any excess glue that squirted out with a clean rag and let the case dry overnight.
5. Attach a one-thirty-second-inch drill bit to a power drill and line up two hinges along the back of the case, equally spaced out from the edge. Pre-drill holes through the holes in the hinges and into the glass. Place the other side of the hinge on the top piece and repeat the process. This will allow the top piece to open and close.
6. Secure the hinges to the back of the jewelry box with the screws that were supplied and a Phillips-head screwdriver. Set the top of the jewelry case directly on top and push the other side of the hinge down on top. Secure the screws into the pre-drilled holes for both hinges. Open and close the case to verify it is operating properly.
